Broadway looks ahead at 'Revival'
Carnegie Hall hosts theater panel in N.Y.

The celluloid version of "Spring Awakening" and Jennifer Lopez's interest in "In the Heights" were among the topics of conversation at "Revival: Broadway's Next Act."
Monday night's packed audience at Carnegie Hall turned out to hear a panel of up-and-coming legiters that included Lin-Manuel Miranda, composer-thesp of the Tony-winning "Heights"; "Rent" star Adam Rapp, now appearing in a one-man musical about the death of his mother; and "Spring" composer Duncan Sheik.
Event featured a mini-concert of Miranda's contributions to the newly revised edition of Stephen Schwartz's "Working," plus a song from Rapp's "Without You" and a number from Sheik's upcoming "Nightingale."
The three fielded questions about the future of theater and their careers from moderator Ana Gasteyer (who begins a run as Elphaba in the Rialto production of "Wicked" Oct. 10), along with helmer and choreographer Jerry Mitchell ("Legally Blonde: The Musical") and Adam Shankman (who directed the "Hairspray" pic).
Panel dished on movie rumors, with Shankman revealing that J.Lo had shown interest in Miranda's "In the Heights," an idea that the writer-composer-star didn't seem to find particularly appealing.
And that brewing "Spring Awakening" pic?
"If I say anything, they'll kill me," Sheik said. But the composer was freer with news about "Nightingale": "My next show has less masturbation and teenage sex in it," he declared.
Interesting! Broadway would be good for her, I think. Adam Shankman is SUCH an ass! He's still pissed off because of Carmen.
