Should Marijuana be Legal? |
Lead | ||
|
What do you think? I remember reading a while back about some senators in the U.S. wanting to make possession of small amounts of marijuana legal. Do you think
it would a responsible way of cutting down on unnecessary arrests? Would you support a bill making this law legal?

no, it cant be legal. Not just marijuana, just any drug or madicine that can make people addictive. I also think that cigarettes should be illegal

illegal. If it was legal then everyone and their grandmother's will be using it. And I don't want to be in a grocery store waiting in line and the
people infront have a cart full of junk food to crave their thirsty hungry needs :-| . Weed makes people act stupid, and I get annoyed being around stupid
people. Therefore, if Weed was legal, I would be in jail for killing stupid people on the streets :-|

I think it should remain illegal as well.

Small amounts are legal in Canada. Most people I know smoke weed. I don't support drug use, but to me it's barely even a drug - no different than
drinking alcohol to me. I'm just desensitized I guess.
I voted legal, because this has been my experience so far, and it cuts down on arrests, incarceration rates, and courts. I don't think someone in possession of a gram of weed requires 30 days in prison. Possession with intent to distribute (i.e., running a grow-op lol) is a different story. |

It shouldn't be allowed by law.

Actually I think it should be legal in small quantities. I mean, pot, to me is like cigars and alcohol. It's not that big of a deal to me. Sure you hear
about million dollar busts but I view this as if they were busting people transporting tobacco. lol
I don't smoke pot y'all but I feel you should have the right to smoke if you'd like. Obama, Bill Clinton smoked it...(or inhaled) so I don't think it's that bad either. |

I've never done it, so I can't really judge how good or bad it is for the public, in general.

Pot tends to be a less 'violent' drug - so many people I know (friends, co-workers, professors, parents of friends, etc) regularly smoke it without a
problem. Addiction obviously can happen but I see it more like Timmy does - like cigars or alcohol. Enjoy it in controlled quantities and you're okay. I
know a lot of European countries are lax about pot as well - have any of you Americans seen any pot stores in your cities? There are soo many here.
I don't think what you do in the privacy of your own home, without harming anyone else, should be legislated by the government. I know states have weird laws, like oral sex is illegal in Georgia or something like that, and we all know nobody abides by that law. But then again, despite my desensitization, addiction to pot is a real thing and is often a gateway drug. But, so is alcohol. So, I don't know where to draw the line. I'm not sure what the law is here...under an ounce of weed is permissible or something like that. |

Cigarettes & alcohol will never be illegal because the government makes taxes off them.

Then maybe they'd solve the health care problem with college students footing the bill.

lol Maybe! Whenever I cash out at work at the end of the night (I'm a waitress) my liquor taxes are always like $200...I personally earned the provincial
government $200 just by selling beer.
Its a tough call. Alcohol, cigarettes, and gambling are all health care burdens and can destroy peoples' lives, but the government makes SO much money off them so it will never be illegal. Plus, as soon as vices become illegal, it's another burden on law enforcement. |

^ By making it legal the government would I'm sure attempt to tax it somehow.
I don't know why they don't make all vices legal. People participate in prostitution, illegal gambling, drugs, etc. no matter what and clearly being arrested in a deterrent. |

Yeah, I do see what you are saying. I think that making prostitution illegal is pretty ridiculous. If someone is willing to rent their body out and someone is
willing to pay for it, more power to them. Certainly, many women who are involved are victims who were forced into it, but there should be other ways to deal
with that.

i voted illegal. simply because i don't support drug use in any way and regardless of how strong or how addictive marijuana is, at the end of the day it is
a drug.

^ But the argument is, is that nicotine & alcohol are drugs as well, and I would argue that all 3 are used equally. At least among people I know.
I agree with you Heather. Women & men forced into prostitution is a different story than those who willingly choose to engage in it. I think pimping should be illegal, but not prostitution itself. |

A lot of state governments are actually banning smoking in public areas now. I have a slight issue with this just because it's one more thing the
government is saying you can't do. I hate it when people smoke around me, though, lol.

I guess its more of a public health issue. Smoking is illegal most places here too. I like it, because I don't want to breathe in your dirty ass cigarette
smoke!
