while I was sleeping! It was in my calf and I woke up from the pain. It was like, 5 am and I was clutching my leg because it hurt so badly. The funny thing is,
I remember thinking, "Oh, so this is what Serena (Williams-the tennis player) feels like when she's playing and gets a cramp". Totally
random.
Any med students on here? lol Because I want to know why the hell that happens!
uhm,i'm not a med student but i guess it must be because we have lactic acid in our muscles...Lactic acid causes uhm...lack of oxygen and we get a cramp.
it sometimes happens to me and i wake up... it sucks!
But doesn't lactic acid build up when you're actually doing something? lol I was sleeping! But, yes, I guess that would work for the whole tennis thing
I was thinking.
That reminds me of that show Ninja Warriors. Anyone ever seen it? It's so funny. It's from Japan and they play it on G4.
I used to experience this a lot when I was involved in track & cross country. You would think I would've learned since I was an athletic trainer as
well. I used to treat football players for this ALL the time. It's called a Charlie Horse cramp, it's the fluctuation in your
electrolytes. It could be your sodium, calcium, chloride, phosphate, or potassium. Most of the time, it's the potassium.
The cure: I used to give the players, a banana or gatorade. Then I would massage the muscle and wrap a warm towel around the area or I would
have them to sit in the tub with warm water. Make sure you drink a lot of water everyday and make sure you stretch properly before and after anything that
will over extend your muscles.

Interesting! I haven't been drinking as much water because I answer the crazy phones here and I don't like having ot run to the bathroom in case
someone calls, lol.
That could be the problem too. You're not moving and your legs are locked in one position. I gurantee you, you could get a cramp just sitting there. Well,
make sure you eat a banana (if you're not allergic) or find something else with a lot of potassium, since you're not getting a lot of liquids. Stretch
your muscles too.

Yep, Manda's right! I used to get these from off-ice training when I was figure-skating. We just drank Gatorade or sports drinks since eating anything
causes me stomach cramps.
