Bachelor of Jen-ology Posts: 1047 05/22/08 1:44 PM Taller In More Ways	Tags : None I know there is a whole bunch of you around here who speak Spanish fluently, and I've been thinking of taking a 3 credit hour intro to Spanish course next year and maybe continuing with it depending how I do.But I'm a little hesitant, I mean - I've learned most of the CAUM album phonetically, but that means very little. The class has an oral aspect of it and I'm pretty nervous as to how I would do in that and how difficult it would be. So my question is how difficult do you guys think it would be to learn? I'm not planning on making my own novellas when it's all done or anything, just a basic understanding would be great since I have always been in love with the language. Any thoughts?

Administrator BB Staff Member Doctor of Jen-ology Posts: 22204 05/22/08 3:04 PM CEO of bb & ojf: you heard it here first!	Spanish is one of the easier languages to learn, IMO. If you can get it down phonetically by copying CAUM, you should be fine, I think, because I think a lot of people struggle with that part. You should definitely try it out.

Bachelor of Jen-ology Posts: 204 05/22/08 3:50 PM Dreams can come true - just do it.	I've started taking spanish lessons around 1 1/2 years ago - 2 blocks of 1 week intensive lessions, starting from Zero. I had to learn a lot of vocabulary and grammatics and I'm now able to speak and understand a little. I want to continue because I want to visit some more spanish speaking countries. I liked the lessions and I'd recommend you to try it - you still can quit it if you don't like it.

I take it for granted that I'm bilingual but there are a lot of advantages on learning Spanish: 1.) You can sing with Jen's music. 2.) Watch cheesy Novelas and understand it! 3.) Looks good on your resume 4.) You can lurk around Spanish speakers and know if they are talking about your hair or whateva.. 5.) You can go to Mexico, go to a bar and tell the bartender "Quiero mas!!" (I want more!!)

Listening is very import for your pronunciation. And about being nervous, don't be! Watch that interview that Jen was on Cristina. She was nervous, but she made it through that and had fun. Don't forget that you're learning and if u already knew the language u wouldn't be there taking classes.

Noooo, I've always read that English is one of the hardest languages because there are so many words and pronunciation varies. Like, you can say the same word and it means a million different things. Writing Spanish is hard sometimes because of the accents.

CAN SEE RUSSIA FROM HER HOUSE.	^ We used to have a Spanish thread. We can make a new one. I think English is supposed to be one of the hardest to learn too. Just go to a non-English speaking country and look at the translations on signs/pamphlets/etc...it's very 'literally' translated and not necessarily the right way to speak or write. Words like "there" and "their" are difficult to master. Most languages don't have things like that. Kyle, do you speak French already? Cause Spanish wouldn't be too hard to master if you know French.

Volvería de otra vida por tu encuentro	^ yay! congrats to all of u for trying to learn spanish i dont really know if its that difficult, cause its my mother tongue...i kinda had to learn it...lol but i've heard from a lot of people that it is quite hard to learn...not impossible, but its supposed to be one of the most diffucult languages out there... good luck to all of u spanish learners! u wont regret it! spanish is really beautiful!

I mean in Texas there is Tex-Mex (not the food) but I guess it's the same as spanglish. For example, park-i-yar would be like park instead of the correct way which is estacionar. And then I always messed up with pared and pader for wall. Piesces (sp?) would mean several feet right? I always said that for a pair of feet when the correct word would be pies. Am I making any sense?

I don't find the grammar difficult, neither pronunciation (I am better speakin' than writing, though) I always heard that Portuguese is one of the hardest languages to learn. My cousin went to Portugal and he said, there was a Chinese family there and they were working in a restaurant for over than 10 years, and they didn't speak a word right in Portuguese.
